"Don't talk to me until I've had my Coffee!"

Coffee is regarded as one of my favorite beverages around. In fact, where is that cup of cappuccino I ordered???

Already holding a significant influence the Western Culture, coffee has most recently also established a strong position in the Asian society. Mostly known as a morning beverage, at least 50% of the world’s population wakes up to its aroma in order to kick start their day. Along with the dependency of coffee, it has also developed as a social medium which allows people to interact and socialize in cafes, benches or simply in the comfort of their homes. The brewing of coffee itself is considered an art form which has caused the expansion in the various varieties of coffee.

Coffee holds a long history – one that dates back to at least the 13th century. The first records of coffee dates originate from Ethiopian from which it spread to Egypt and Yemen. Through trade, the popularity of coffee found its way to Europe and America.

With its’ extensive history and spread in influence, the varieties of coffee has also increased as a result of the individualist tastes in different countries.

The common enjoyment of coffee has also lead to the opening of coffeehouses – and guess where I am at the moment :P. Due to the popularity of coffee, coffeehouses were traditionally not only social hubs, but also artistic and intellectual centers. Throughout Western Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean they became popular meeting place for artists, writers, and socialites and were also the center for much political and commercial activity. This has continued into the contemporary society even with the spread of franchise stores from America such as Starbucks.

Did you know?

Unlike the hip 20-something Baristas in the US, in Italy the average Barista age is 48 - it is a very respected profession
